To: CCA Member Churches and Councils

Dear Ecumenical Friends,

It is my pleasure to send you the Statement of the Church Leaders Theological Consultation held in Taiwan from 22-25 August, 2012. It is a God given opportunity for the Asian church leaders, which includes bishops, clergy, lay leaders, men, women and youth representing CCA member churches and councils, theological institutions and ecumenical organizations – to discuss the emerging issues in Asia today and to reflect theologically as how to ‘be the church’ following the path of Jesus Christ to promote peace and justice amidst the mounting challenges we face today.

Prior to this Consultation, the CCA General Committee and related meetings were held from August 18-22, 2012. The special highlight of these meetings was the celebration of the 55th anniversary of the Christian Conference of Asia in a local parish of the Presbyterian Church in Taiwan together with the representatives of the local congregations. Such celebrations are a constant reminder for us that CCA is a fellowship of churches called to witness the love, peace and justice of God in the world. CCA was established based on “Believing that the purpose of God for the church in Asia is life together in common obedience of witness to the mission of God in the world, CCA exists as an organ and a forum of continuing cooperation among the churches and national Christian bodies in Asia within the framework of the wider ecumenical movement.” (CCA Constitution, Purpose)

We are grateful to receive the warm welcome of the Presbyterian Church in Taiwan (PCT). It is heartening to experience the gracious hospitality of PCT who are willing to cover the board and lodging and local transportation of all participants attending the series of meetings in Taiwan from 16-28 August, 2012. I am sure that this gesture of hospitality springs out of experiencing the hospitality of God to all of us. This is a sign of hope, that despite the financial limitations that we begin to feel which led us to reduce the number of staff, we are encouraged by the support of the member churches and councils in any possible way they can offer to enhance our common ministry as CCA family.

May God continue to bless us all in our life and ministry.

Sincerely yours,
Henriette Hutabarat Lebang
General Secretary
