Our Continued Solidarity and Prayers for all suffering the aftermath of the Nargis Cyclone Disaster

Dear Gay Gui,

Greetings and peace to you in the name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ!

Mr. Andrew Siew had informed me that he would be visiting Myanmar and had kindly consented to personally carry this letter to you.

The church leaders in Malaysia have been following all the developments in emergency humanitarian relief in your country and have encouraged congregations here to intercede for the victims and relief helpers out in the field. The leaders have also maintained strong contacts with their counterparts in Myanmar, and learning first hand of how the churches in Myanmar are responding to the much needed relief work.

I am sure it will take many more years before whole communities in affected areas are stabilized and rehabilitated.

Rest assured the churches in Malaysia, joined by many other churches in Asia and in the rest of the world, will continue to support every effort of the Myanmarese people to transform their nation by alleviating suffering, restoring justice and promoting the will of the people for peace and prosperity.

We will channel our donations to Action of Churches Together (ACT); which is working with you and others to engage in emergency relief.

We keep all the churches and the people of Myanmar constantly in our prayers.

Yours fraternally in Christ,
Rev. Dr. Hermen Shastri
General Secretary

Dear Dr. Shastri,

Greetings to you in the precious name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

I am very grateful for your kind letter which I received today from Mr. Andrew Siew. On behalf of the Myanmar Council of Churches (MCC) I would like to express our sincere thanks to the Church Leaders and Members in Malaysia for their solidarity, prayers and kind support for our people and our efforts for the relief and rehabilitation of the Nargis cyclone affected people.

The 82nd Biennial General Meeting of MCC will be held on June 18-20 in Yangon. The new leadership including the General secretary will be elected at BGM.

Please pray for our BGM as we are trying to reshape MCC and elect new leaders.

Again thank you very much indeed for your concern and assistance.

In Him,

Rev. Saw Mar Gay Gyi
Hon. General Secretary
