Musical Concert in Teluk Intan

“He touched me”, “He was near me” and “He raised me up” were among the simple yet powerful messages of love, joy and peace conveyed through the songs and music by four Christian artistes during the Keep the Rhythm Going charity concert at the Town Hall of Teluk Intan, Perak on 12 May 2007. The concert was aimed at raising funds for CCM for the building of the new ecumenical centre over the existing site in Petaling Jaya.

The concert featured the first Malaysian Idol Jaclyn Victor, award-winning singer and songwriter Juwita Suwito, Akademi Fantasia 1 champion Vince Chong and leading R&B singer Liang.

The 800-strong audience, especially those of the younger generation, reacted enthusiastically with the lively performances, and especially so when the artistes descended to the hall and mixed briefly with the crowd. The performing artistes jelled together naturally and the concert was a smooth flow of events. It was really an entertaining and meaningful show worthy of its cause. A crowd of young fans spent another hour after the show to get their admission cards or souvenir booklets autographed.

We give thanks to God that the concert was a resounding success. We are grateful to the artistes for generously offering their talents and time in this labour of love.

The concert was organized by the TI Inter-Church Fellowship comprising of clergy and laity of local churches and organizations, chaired by Mr. Heng Eam Meng and ably monitored by Rev. Bernard Yogaraj, both of Wesley Methodist Church, Teluk Intan. In his message, Rt. Rev. Tan Sri Dr. Lim Cheng Ean, then President of CCM, noted that “The sense of fellowship, comradeship and togetherness that you have experienced in this project is significant, and speaks well of our ecumenical endeavours.” Echoing the sentiment, Rev. Dr. Hermen Shastri, General Secretary, saw “a strong sense of commitment, mutual sharing and sacrifice in their effort, which should be emulated by similar groups in the CCM family.”
