Appeal to national media for restrain on the "Allah" issueThe Council of Churches expresses its concern about the Media playing-up the issue with regard to the right of non-Muslims using the word “Allah”. On 17th February a programme entitled : of ISU@1 (9.30pm) was aired by RTM’s TV One, where a panel of speakers representing one religious community shared their views on the matter. This is most unfortunate, and may serve to invoke further distressed emotions on a matter that is sensitive to a few religious communities in the country. Furthermore, there is a case pending in the Kuala Lumpur High Court and it is only natural that public comments on the matter be constrained. To note that the national media feels no restrain in this regard is unfortunate. We strongly urge all parties especially the electronic and print media to refrain from further comments whilst the case is pending determination in the High Court. In Malaysia , as in many other countries in Asia , where Muslims and Christians have lived in peace, the mutual exchange of religious ideas and practices have never posed a problem. The CCM urges the government to ensure such an issue is not played-up irresponsibly by proponents representing a certain view with regard to the matter, and thereby jeopardize religious harmony in the country.
